Parents of littles age six and under, this one’s for you. This Saturday, April 14th, the City of Long Beach will host its first Celebration of the Young Child as part of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Early Childhood Education Program. This free, one-day event will be held on the Cal State Long Beach Campus from 10am to 2pm.
Expect more than 50 organizations and local business to be hosting booths with educational components and hands-on activities for kids. Yours truly, LB Littles, will be on-site too with you chance to score some LB Littles swag and take a photo in our photo booth! Enter the event via Atherton Street, where parking will be free for the first 200 cars in Lot E1. After the first 200 cars, the fee for parking is eight dollars per car.
“Nothing is more important than helping young children get a good start in life,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. “The Celebration of the Young Child is one of many ways the City is working with its partners to promote early learning and healthy development in our community.”
“We know that when kids do well in their early years, they are much more likely to be successful in the future,” added Kelly Colopy, Director of the Department of Health and Human Services. “The Celebration of the Young Child provides great, hands-on fun and learning to help children dream up possibilities.”
With perfect weather in store for this weekend, it’s the perfect free morning activity for you and the kiddos.
This event leads up to Long Beach’s observance of national Week of the Young Child. Throughout the week, various early childhood education locations throughout the City will host activities associated with National Association for the Education of Young Children’s yearly celebration.
